Global Models

  • International Affairs Faculty and Research: Peter Brecke
  • World3

World3 is perhaps the best known of any global model because of the fame of the two books that made use of it:

The Limits to Growth by Donella H. Meadows, Dennis L. Meadows, Jorgen Randers, and William W. Behrens, III, New York: Universe Books, 1972

Beyond the Limits by Donella H. Meadows, Dennis L. Meadows, and Jorgen Randers, New York: Doubleday Press, 1992.

A very easy to use Macintosh (and at some point a Windows) version of the model that was used for the latter book can be obtained by going to Ken Simon's web page.

Other versions of the Beyond the Limits model that run on DOS/Windows and Macintosh computers with the assistance of simulation packages such as DYNAMO or STELLA can be obtained by contacting Dennis Meadows at the Institute for Policy and Social Science Research at the University of New Hampshire.
